Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive Japanese energy healing practice developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century.
The word Reiki is derived from the Japanese words Rei, meaning universal or spiritual, and Ki, referring to life force energy.
Reiki is based on the belief that energy flows through all living things and that supporting the balance of this energy can promote harmony between the mind, body and spirit.
During a Reiki session, the practitioner uses gentle hand placements either lightly touching or hovering above the recipient’s body, with the intention of channelling universal life force energy.
Reiki offers an opportunity to experience deep relaxation, quieten the mind and take time away from the pressures of everyday life.
It is a complementary holistic practice and is not intended to replace conventional medical care.
People seek Reiki for many different reasons. Some wish to experience relaxation and reduce everyday stress, while others are navigating emotional challenges, personal changes or periods of uncertainty.
Reiki may help to support:
Deep relaxation and a sense of calm
Emotional wellbeing and inner peace
A reduction in feelings of everyday stress and tension
Mindfulness and greater self-awareness
A sense of grounding and energetic balance
Comfort and relaxation during challenging periods of life
Time for personal reflection and self-care
Reiki can be experienced by individuals with or without spiritual beliefs. There is no requirement to follow a particular faith or philosophy.
Why choose me?
I am a qualified Usui Reiki practitioner with an extensive background in nursing and holistic wellbeing.
My nursing experience has given me an understanding of the importance of compassionate, individualised care and the relationship between physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing.
Alongside my nursing career, I have developed my practice in holistic therapies, including energy healing, sound therapy and meditation.
My approach combines my professional healthcare experience with my spiritual understanding, recognising the importance of treating each person as an individual.
I aim to provide a welcoming, safe and nurturing environment where you feel comfortable, respected and supported.
What Happens During an In-Person Reiki Healing Session?
Before each session, I prepare both myself and the treatment space, creating a peaceful environment in which you can relax.
We begin with a brief consultation to discuss your individual needs, any relevant health considerations and what you hope to gain from your session.
You will then be invited to make yourself comfortable, either lying on a treatment couch or sitting in a chair, depending on your personal preference and physical needs.
You remain fully clothed throughout the treatment.
I begin by grounding and centring myself before connecting with Reiki energy.
Using a series of gentle hand positions, I work either with light touch, where consent has been given, or with my hands positioned just above the body.
Within traditional Reiki practice, this is understood as supporting the natural flow and balance of energy throughout the body’s energy system, including the chakras.
Some individuals experience sensations such as warmth, tingling or deep relaxation. Others may experience very little physically but still enjoy the opportunity for rest and stillness.
There is no expectation that you should feel or experience anything specific.
At the end of your session, I allow time for you to become fully grounded and gently return to your surroundings.
You will have an opportunity to discuss your experience should you wish to do so.
Every session is individual, and your comfort, dignity and wellbeing remain my priority throughout.
